JUNE 2010. Philadelphia

A Theatrical Immersion Exprience

SURVIVE! is a new theatrical experience that asks whether it is possible to understand humanity’s place in the Universe. Swim Pony will tackle this question by giving audiences the chance to explore human life from many angles. We are creating scenes that look back at earth from the deepest regions of space and stare down at tiny microscopic life forms to understand how we are connected to them.

What is SURVIVE!?

"We are a way for the universe to know itself.” - Carl Sagan

In 1972, NASA launched a pair of satellites named Pioneer into space. Each was fitted with a plaque intended for any intelligent beings who found it. It’s message to the universe: We are humanity. We are here.

What if in 2010 we received a message back?

An audience enters a room. They each hold a map with an arrow to the center that says plainly: YOU ARE HERE. They are suddenly surrounded by a strange and other-worldly voice. Within minutes they’ve received a message and a mission: “Yes, you are here. And now you need to understand what that means.”

SURVIVE! is a new work of theater that uncovers the meaning of human existence. By examining the phrase “YOU ARE HERE” through the lenses of time, space and dimension, Swim Pony’s audiences will find out whether it is possible to know their place in the Universe. Using the guidance of a 10th dimensional narrator named AMA viewers will pick their paths through a maze-like installation covering over 20,000 square feet.

Look back at earth from the deepest regions of the galaxy on a “walkway to space” and stare down at tiny microscopic life forms to understand how you are connected to them. Meet a gentle scientist who can explain anything you need to know or find out what it feels like to travel in time as you choose your own adventure through a multi-dimensional message that the cosmos has sent in return to our own.
